Laurent Boullet
Laurent Boullet has established himself worldwide as one of the leading specialist in the field physiological approach to piano technique. In 1994 a serious malfunction called focal hand dystonia prevented him from playing his instrument for more than a year, but in collaboration with specialized physiotherapists, he was able to reeducate himself and start again his career as a concert pianist.
He has ever since dedicated himself to the development of a new approach to piano technique.
UNIVERSITIES/CONSERVATORIES ATTENDED
He began his professional studies at the Royal Conservatories of Liège and Brussels (Belgium). The following five years he studied with Hans Leygraf (Mozarteum of Salzburg and“ Hochschule der Künste” Berlin), in the USA with John Perry (U.S.C. Los Angeles) and in France with François-René Duchable. After getting a severe malfunction of the hand (Focal Dystonia) in 1994 he was awarded the soloist diploma from the “Hochschule der Künste” in Berlin in the class of Pascal Devoyon in 1999.
PRIZES
He was finalist and prize winner of several national competitions in Belgium (included E.P.T.A. piano competition 93) and scholarship recipient of the “Queen Elisabeth” piano competition (1999) as well as three times from the Aspen Music Festival & School. He also obtained several prizes in other competitions and festivals included the “ interpretation prize “of the Cochem Music Festival and Academy in 1997.
PERFORMING MASTERCLASSES & LECTURES
He has been coaching renown pianists and students from Music Hochschule & Conservatories worldwide, and was since 2002 hired for giving over 100 Master-Classes and Lectures at Institutions such as: Hochschule für Musik Hans Eisler Berlin, Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Conservatoire National de Région de Lyon, Royal Conservatory of Music Brussels Belgium, Conservatoire of Luxemburg, University Martin Luther Halle, Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Zürich, State Conservatory of Piacenza/Milan, EPTA Denmark (Copenhagen), EPTA Greece (Thessaloniki), The Purcell School of Music London, The Royal College of Music London, The Lund Univeristy Malmö Sweden, The Boston Conservatory of Music USA, The Clavier Hall Seoul, etc....)
MUSIC MEDICINE CONGRESSES
Mr. Boullet is regularly invited to International Music Medicine Congresses to present his works (Mainz/Germany 2000, Glasgow/Scotland 2001, Ascona/Switzerland 2002, ESCOM Hanover/Germany 2003, Aspen/USA 2004, Thessaloniki/Greece 2008 & 2010, Hanover 2010, 2013, 2016 etc....). These are also part of research programs at the Institute for Music Physiology and Musician’s Medicine in Hanover directed by Mr. E. Altenmüller.
MEMBER OF
In 2003 he became head of the department of “Music Physiology” of the prestigious „International Piano Academy-Lake Como“ as well as member of its faculty. In summer 2005, he was a member of the faculty of the Courchevel International Summer Music Academy (France), leading his own course “Piano Technique & Physiology”. Upon this, in the summer of 2009 he was a member of the faculty of the International Summer Music Academy of Thessaloniki.
Laurent Boullet is also member of the “German Society for Musician’s Medicine” (DGfMM), as well as in the working committee of the “Institute for Musician’s Health and Music Medicine “ Kurt Singer Berlin.
SCHEDULED ENGAGEMENTS
Among the projects for 2016/2017 are Master Classes and lectures scheduled in Germany, Belgium, England, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Austria, Lithuania, Japan and China.
